I joined Thomas and Friends as script editor/head writer on an eight week contract and ended up staying for three years, countless episodes, and one Bafta nomination.
Despite the two hour drive to Shepperton, I learned to love the modified world on the Island of Sodor, where no-one was terrified or furious, they were scared or cross, or, if pushed very cross.
This is one of my favourite Percy eps (my favourite engine) and includes a genuine, paid-up joke for three-year-olds. I’m still proud.

Hello. I have been a Big fan of Thomas and Friends for a very long time. I have loved all the stories in the show, and I still do today. You and Paul Larson did so many episodes together and the number of stories you did is most impressive. My favourite stories from you are:
Thomas, Emily & the Snowplough
As Good As Gordon
Percy’s Big Mistake
Edward the Great
Thomas & the Circus
Keeping Up With James
Flour Power
Percy & the Funfair
Wharf & Peace
I have written my own fan made episodes and have turned them into audio stories. I upload them onto YouTube for everyone to see. How much fun did you have working on the show?
I just want to say, thank you for your hard work and contributions to the show. You have done great work and I am very pleased and proud of you. Your stories, as well as the ones from the other writers, have entertained me for years through high school and college. You are a credit to the writing team. Is there any advice you could give to those who want to follow in your footsteps?
Love from Ross

Like I say, Percy and the Magic Carpet – I think it’s sweet, funny, and I had to fight all the way to the top to get it made.
